LENTEN DEVOTIONALS 2018

Day 36 - Wednesday, March 21

Posted by Kelly Carrier on

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.              Romans 12:12

I believe that we all have the option to choose joy each and every day of our lives.  No matter what the circumstances, God has given us free reign on how we present ourselves. When responding to a negative comment or message, I remind myself that   I have no idea what frame of mind the person was in or what kind of day they were having. I try to “rise above” the negative and respond with kindness and grace.

During a recent visit to Costa Rica, it was obvious that choosing joy is not something they do occasionally but is a way of life. Their motto is “pura vida”, which means “pure life” or “simple life”.  They live a simple, relaxed, stress-free life; one where being thankful for what you have far outweighs any of the negative. No wonder they are  considered one of the happiest countries, in spite of the low economic status. It was a good reminder for me that happiness is not found in money or possessions. It truly is a choice.

As you go through this Lenten season, remember that you have a choice in how you react to and respond to what life throws at you. Imagine what our society would be like if we all chose to be joyful, hopeful, patient, and faithful. What a beautiful world that would be. Pura vida!

Prayer:  God, please remind us of all that we have to be thankful for. Guide us to share the best of ourselves with those around us.  Help us to choose joy in all we do.  Amen.
