Lenten Devotionals 2020

Lenten Devotional, Day 30, Thursday, March 26, 2020

Posted by Tim Marnell on

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

I wasn’t quite sure what to think when I received Pastor John’s request to write a devotional for the Devotional Booklet that Bethel does each Lenten season.  I’ll be honest, I don’t read the bible very often. However, I realized that Pastor John had given me the opportunity for some reflection.

Our community has been rocked in the past several months with the passing of 3 Hudson High School students.  As a parent of two HHS students, these tragedies really hit home. I reflected on the pain for the families involved and the sadness the students and friends are feeling as they try to understand and make sense of these events.

I picked this Bible verse for my devotion, because I believe that God has a plan for me, for all of us.  It can be difficult to know what those plans are during difficult times, but I have faith that there is a plan for all of us in this life.

Perhaps God’s plan for me is to be a good role model to my children and the youth of our community.  I was lucky to be a chaperone on the Bethel High School Montana ski trip.  I’m lucky to coach my kids in youth sports.  I’m lucky to positively impact their lives.  It’s difficult to know what Gods plans are for us.  However, I see this bible verse as a reminder.  A reminder to have faith and believe that in our crazy lives, God has a plan for us.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you are in the hearts of those in our community who have had to endure the loss of loved ones.  Give them hope to believe that there is indeed a plan, that the pain they are feeling isn’t in vain.  Please help us to know your great and unconditional love and allow us to be the ones to shine your light on others.  In your name we pray, Amen.
