LENTEN DEVOTIONS 2019

Lenten Devotion Day 5 - Sunday, March 10, 2019

Posted by Libby Orf on

"If we live by the spirit, let us also be guided by the spirit. Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another."  Galatians 5:25-26

Living in the 21st century is difficult for young teens and adults. We spend our extra time on social media; updating our status, taking selfies, showing all the great things we have in our lives. We spend time being envious over our friends who are getting engaged, married, graduating college or grad school. We look at our friends having children and wish we too were having children. Living by the spirit is asking God for guidance and knowing that you will not have the same life as those around you.

I am guilty of being envious of my friends, however I have so many great things in my life it does not make sense why. As I just got a new job, bought a house, married my best friend and have the best family in the world. Yet, here I am envious of my friends on Facebook and Instagram. I need to step back and be thankful for all the great things I have in my life right now. I am very blessed and my life is not the same as theirs.

Reminding myself that to live by and be guided by the holy spirit, asking God for guidance, and to not compare myself to others.

I now strive to lift others up rather than being envious. Telling others I am thinking of them, praying for them or even just how happy I am for the successes! We need to lift one another up and be happy for others to avoid being jealous and competing against them. I have started using the hashtag Kindness Matters to remind myself that I need to be thankful and  supportive. I now have a better understanding of God’s plan for me and the person he calls me to be.   #KindnessMatters

Prayer: Dear God, I am sorry I have been envious of others around me. Help me to be thankful for all the blessings in my life. Help me to support my friends in all they do and to be joyous in what I have. Thank you for being forgiving and giving me a reminder to live out your word with love and kindness. Amen.
