Lenten Devotions

Day 32: Written by Paul Jensen

Posted on

“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.” Proverbs 18:22

Marriage is one of the greatest gifts in this world between two individuals. In April, 2007 I lost my first wife of 5 years Monica to cancer at the young age of 33. I was 35 years old with three small girls under the age of 5. My world had been turned upside down, but my support system of family and friends, in conjunction with my faith in God kept me moving forward.

As with everything, God had a plan. A year later I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Penny West, a remarkable woman who took the time to understand my situation, was there with me during some of my most difficult times, and eventually agreed to become my wife in November of 2011. I am so eternally grateful to Penny for her love for not only me, but for my children as well.

This coming April we will celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Monica’s death. We will share stories and remember the good times. It takes a special person to introduce themselves into the life of a grieving widower. Thank you Penny for your devotion, selfless compassion and strength!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, bless all those that are grieving and provide comfort for their sorrow. Help us not forgot those that have left before us, for they help define who we are moving forward. In your almighty name we pray. Amen.
