Getting To Know Our Neighbors: Catholicism

Father Joseph Hurtuk*, from the University of St. Thomas, will be sharing information about the Roman Catholic faith.

*Information from Father Hurtuk: My name is Joseph Charles Hurtuk and I am an ordained Roman Catholic priest and member of the religious order of the Society of Mary (Marist Fathers and Brothers), a community founded in France in the mid 1800’s.  I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America, as well as an S.T.B. (Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology) and an S.T.L. (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) from the same university. I completed my doctoral work in May 2011 at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome IT, concentrating in Dogmatic/Systematic Theology with a specialization in Christology.  I am currently Parochial Vicar at St. Louis King of France Church in St. Paul MN and Adjunct Professor of Theology at the University of St. Thomas, also in St. Paul.

The presentation will include a discussion of selected similarities and differences between Roman Catholic and Lutheran theology, recent developments in Roman Catholic theology over the past few decades, and some changes in Roman Catholic sacramental life and worship following the 1962-1965 Second Vatican Council.  I will also be open, of course, to take questions from the group.
