“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”   John 14:26

This verse reminds me that God sent the Holy Spirit to ensure that we have support in our faith journey and that we are reminded in various ways throughout our lives of the lessons that Jesus has taught us.

The Holy Spirit is on display in many places and in many ways if we take the time to pause and appreciate the simple things and the love that surrounds us in both good times and in times of challenge.

In my early childhood the Holy Spirit was presented to me through my grandmother.  She took me to Sunday School or church every Sunday morning.  She listened to me practice scripture readings, sang hymns in church loudly and proudly (and a bit out of tune), and comforted me when I was ill or experienced difficult times. When Grandma passed, my faith waned. I prayed but didn’t feel heard yet my faith foundation was solid.

As an adult, the Holy Spirit brought renewed faith through the introduction of love like no other when my husband and I met and married a short time later.  The love we share comforted us through the loss of children, close friends, and my brother at the young age of 43 years.  It also brought two beautiful children into our lives that introduced the new emotion of indescribable joy.

The faith that faded after Grandma passed became stronger than ever when the lessons of Jesus came to life through the words, actions, and examples that our children have shared during their faith journeys; they became the vehicles of the message.

The Holy Spirit at work could be classified as “God sightings.” We see God at work through the Holy Spirit in many ways when we pause and appreciate the simple things and the love that surrounds us.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to remind us of the lessons of your son, Jesus Christ, and for your love and grace. Help us to pause on a regular basis to recognize and appreciate your presence in our lives.  In Your name we pray, Amen.
