Lenten Devotionals 2020

Lenten Devotional, Day 32, Saturday, March 28, 2020

“Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” - Proverbs 12:19

Tell the truth, or at least don’t lie!

If you act in truth then the order you produce is good, regardless of how it appears. Truth is the antidote to the suffering that emerges with “The fall of man” in the story of Adam and Eve. God spoke truth into being and creation and His truth is good. - Jordan Peterson

This verse teaches us the utility and danger of truth and lie and it's very serious consequences to not only your own character, but the character and behavior of those around you. 'Truth' isn't just about the way that we communicate with others, but how we interact with ourselves when faced with the moral conundrum of truth or lie. It is this daily choice that will dictate your propensity towards heaven or hell. Telling the truth is hard, because you have to know what the truth is. Truth is a process of pushing yourself into different situations so you can educate yourself in what is true.

You know when you’re lying. Lies make you weak and you can feel it, physically. It throws off our center of being. We all lie for a period of time and it works out to some degree, however it always runs out.

We all learn at a very young age that lying is a very powerful tool. I have successfully manipulated countless amounts of people and scenarios to get to where I am today: A community member, a friend, a teacher, a husband, and a father of two. I’m here to tell you that I’ve lost every single one of these things because my life was built upon intricate lies. I am also here to tell you that all of these things are now redeemed because I came clean and now live a life of truth, my truth.

I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to not lie. I can also tell you how lost and scared I am at times because I’m still not sure who I really am yet. Telling the truth is the hardest thing in the world for me because my brain is still wired from years of deception, omissions, manipulations and lies.

The truth shall set you free! Truthful lips endure forever! Aim towards heaven, Christ, truth, then see what the hell happens.

Prayer: Father in heaven; continue to speak truth into my life. No matter how hard and confrontational truth is, keep speaking truth into me. Compel me to be true in thoughts, actions, and words on this day. In Your heavenly name. Amen.
