Lenten Devotionals 2020

“Let all that you do be done in love.”  - 1 Corinthians 16:14

As simple and cliche as this verse may sound, this bible verse is at its peak in importance. I and many of my peers have noticed that the growing world has become more critical of anything and everything. People, especially students, have been quick to criticize and denounce, but slow to compliment or offer help. In a world with ever-growing strife and problems, there needs to be more love and happiness spread to the younger generation. We as a younger generation are the future and if we grow up knowing only hate and criticism, then what are we supposed to do when we want to try something or suggest something new? Nothing? Keep silent? Be scared of what will be said or done to us? To improve the future, this younger generation needs to learn to accept mistakes and pursue innovation, for both of these will influence what the future becomes.

Outside of what our future holds, there is a present topic that is all too important to look over. Suicide. The suicide rates are higher than ever and experiencing a few in my high school and community makes me wonder what led to them thinking heartbreaking and life-ending thoughts. Hearing what some students say to others in the halls of my high school and through social media can definitely send a student home with such thoughts. From personal experience on the receiving and giving side, one tiny compliment or kindness can turn someone’s day around. As my generation moves forward, I hope we, as a whole world even, can do less criticizing and be blessed to do what we believe in and enjoy and also learn praise people for what they believe in and enjoy. People need to know they are cared for, supported and that others will be there for them no matter what. Everyone deserves love !

Prayer: Almighty God, send us love in our day to day life, and have it shine through us all into others who are in need of it. Have LOVE brighten someone’s day. Have LOVE keep people moving on and living, and especially, have it inspire others to shine. Send us LOVE knowing it will make a difference, although sometimes small, enough to make a change. Let us emulate you and your unending love. Amen
