LENTEN DEVOTIONS 2019

Lenten Devotion Day 7 - Tuesday, March 12

Posted by Kris Larson on

Be still and know that I am God."  Psalm 46:10

As a young girl this was always my "go to" verse.  This verse hung in my home and the church so it was easy to recall.  When asked to quote a verse from memory-boom, there it was.  I must confess (after all it is lent), I never paid much attention to its meaning.

Later in life, when my husband and I were raising our family, the meaning of the verse began to take hold.  I was racing to accomplish the many demands and daily activities that go along with this stage in life.  It was only in quiet and rest that I was able to reflect, pray and listen to God.  This verse gave me the permission I felt I needed to escape the crazies of a hectic day.  I would allow myself to take a break and just be still.

One night I shared my "go to" verse in bible study and was surprised when someone asked me about the rest of the verse.  Wait, what-there's more?  "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among nations.  I will be exalted in the earth."  Psalm 46:10.

I know now I still need to give myself permission to escape the "crazies."  I need to take time each day to be still and to honor God and his power and majesty.  He is my refuge and is with me in all circumstances.

I will continue to strive to grow in God's word. He has placed nurturing people in my life to help me grow in my faith.  I am thankful for their wisdom.  I am blessed.

Proverbs 3:5  "Lord help me to quiet my mind so I can hear your voice clearly."

Luke 5:16  "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."

Prayer: Dear Lord,  Thank you for always being available to us through prayer.  Thank you for being patient with us as we seek to understand what you teach us.  Draw us close to you this Lenten season through your word and worship.  We pray this in your loving name, Amen.
