LENTEN DEVOTIONAL, DAY 10, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2021

Posted by Brian Ullom on

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Matthew 25:35-40

I have been involved with the H.O.M.E meal ministry since it began back in December of 2005. A little background for those who don’t know about what we do. “H.O.M.E.” stands for Hudson Outreach Meal for Everyone. This is a group of churches in the Hudson area. These churches donate money so we can buy groceries, and they provide volunteers to prepare and serve these meals twice a month in our downtown church fellowship hall. I love working with these people. Their commitment to serving others and provide this place for food and fellowship is wonderful! We have witnessed to several amazing stories of the people we have shared a meal with on those Thursday nights. Too many stories to mention in this writing.  If you’d like to hear about some of these stories, let me know and I would be glad to tell you about them.

Now with COVID we have stopped serving the meals in the fellowship hall since March of last year. But that did not stop us from trying to help. With the help from Pastor John, we started working with a couple local restaurants and handing out meal vouchers starting in April. We have continued handing out vouchers on Thursday nights right into the new year. Not the ideal situation, we miss the fellowship we had with the people during the meal. Hopefully we can return to sharing a meal and the fellowship again sometime this year.

What is your passion? How can you put that to use for the glory of God?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your servants that keep this ministry and other ministries going in our local community. Their dedication is an inspiration to us all. AMEN.
