LENTEN DEVOTIONAL, DAY 21, TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 2021

Posted by Brian Johnson on

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”  1 Corinthians 13:4-7

2020 was a challenging year to say the least. From the riots, looting and burning of cities across America, to the extreme polarization on the political front, to news/media outlets presenting negativity every time you turn on the TV/Radio, world pandemic, to not being able to worship in person…to the Vikings once again not making the playoffs. The list goes on and on. I’m typically a very positive and optimistic person, but have to say this last year put me in somewhat of a funk.

As 2021 approached, I kept thinking . . . OK, I have had enough of this non-sense and wondered what I could do to change the direction of what I could control. A verse that rattled around in my mind was 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. I love the key words in that verse . . .LOVE is PATIENT, KIND, DOES NOT ENVY or BOAST, NOT RUDE, LOVE ALWAYS PROTECTS, TRUSTS, HOPES, and PERSEVERES! WOW! If only everyone in the world lived by this verse including myself and treated others in this fashion . . . what a better world it would be.

So, by nature I am a goal setter and I listed the 3 following goals to try and live by in 2021.

#1. I was going to start by minimizing the amount of News/Media I watched daily. I personally needed to stop feeding myself with the negativity that is so prevalent on many news outlets these days.

#2. I needed to start each day instead with positivity in the form of reading or listening to a daily devotion or simply listening to uplifting music on the way to work each day. (KTIS – 98.5 has been my choice)

#3. Finally, I needed to make it a point that for every person I come in contact with, I needed to go out of my way to greet them with a “Good Morning”, “Hello”, hold the door for them, allow them to merge into my lane and do it with a smile, or simply say “Thank You”. All of these things do not cost anything, but have given me a new perspective on my own life. I also know when you can give someone else a smile be that a friend, family member or stranger…it can be priceless for them and for you. That is what life is all about. 2021 is going to be a good year. . . I am confident about that.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, as we go about our daily lives, may we take time each day to stop, notice and appreciate those around us. May we feed our minds with positive content and may we spread Joy, Peace and the greatest of these-Love to others as we know that is what perseveres.  Amen.
