LENTEN DEVOTIONAL, DAY 40, SUNDAY, April 10, 2022

Posted by Christ Madsen on

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in the green pastures he restores my soul”…

Psalm 21:1-6

As a youth in Stillwater, Minnesota and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, I had recited and memorized this Psalm during Confirmation. Little did I know that in a few short years I would be under the umbrella of protection of this Psalm.

In 1966, 1967 and 1968 I was a combat Marine in South Vietnam. I was never wounded but I did carry a number of wounded men back to safety. Until I got home, I hadn’t thought too much about the importance of this Psalm until I was helping my elderly aunt move. When I was finished, we chatted and she told me she had prayed for me every day. I was awakened to the thought that my mom had also prayed for me, I’m sure, every day. I realized that this was probably the beginning of Divine Intervention, which covered me the whole thirteen months I was there. I was blessed to have been raised in such a loving, caring and faithful family.

If you will keep those who serve our country in your prayers, I’m sure that they, and their moms, will greatly appreciate it! And also, a prayer for all those who gave their lives in battle.

Prayer: Dear God, Please be there for any combat vet, from any war, who struggles with physical, mental, or spiritual distress. Thank You, God!
