LENTEN DEVOTIONAL, DAY 5, SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2022

Posted by Cilla Dressen on

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Matthew 21:22

At the beginning of this unprecedented Covid era in February of 2020, my husband’s health and age were beginning to slow him down. He had dealt very well with heart problems for almost 20 years. We had bicycled the mountains of Oregon and California, snow skied in Colorado and Utah, windsurfed in Michigan, Florida, and the Dominican Republic, and life had been good. But things were changing and we needed to plan for the last phase of our lives.

After much prayer, and my husband constantly waking me up in the middle of the night because he couldn’t sleep and needed to talk about our future, I turned to faith in God for answers.

I prayed daily, simple and complex prayers asking for guidance, strength, knowledge, and solutions. And my prayers were answered, each one, in many unique ways. Sometimes it was when I was cycling around the beautiful lakes in Michigan, other times through a friend or family member, maybe at night in a dream, or through my husband (which was a good move on God’s part making it the husband’s idea) and often with just a common sign from God. I just had to listen and hear His words.

Ultimately, we sold our house in Indiana and bought a more functional home in Hudson near our daughter and her family. This was a big move for us in many ways.

We moved June 1, 2021 and my husband has since had 2 extended hospital stays, his 5th heart device implanted, and he is doing well. In his words, we didn’t move a minute too soon. We are close to our daughter and her family, and just a direct flight from our 3 boys and their families in CO, UT, and TN.  I have found a church community that has welcomed me into Bible Studies, Book Clubs, and services with generosity and kindness, and a gym (YMCA) that is amiable and wholesome in nature. God had this in His plan all along, we just had to listen. We are both so thrilled that He provided us with the strength and guidance to follow His word.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for communicating with us and giving us the signs that help us   understand, discern, listen, and trust in You through prayer. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to lead us, walk with us, and live within our hearts just as my favorite hymn “He Lives” vocalizes. Thank You, Lord for instilling the love of Your word and music in us to help us along the way. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
