Lenten Devotions Day 13

Posted by Mary Kochendorfer on

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11

In recent journaling, I found myself gravitating towards this verse and wondering “What are my gifts again?” How does God want to speak through me? What is God’s plan for me? I am a mom to three children, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an audiologist. I have many identities and roles and am proud of all of them. But as we do life, running from one kid activity to the next, we can lose track of what our gifts are. God has given each of us gifts for doing certain things well. Certainly, being a mother and all of the above is rewarding and amazing, but what else can we bring to this world? What are your gifts and how will they shine? Are you being responsible with your gifts? “If it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:8

The world we are living in can sometimes feel broken. I often find myself feeling overwhelmed by the hurt and anger, the negativity and fighting, especially with the responsibility of raising three children. Romans 14:10 says, “Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So, let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.” Be kind. Slow down and listen, be calm and present. Be slow to speak and quick to listen. God gave us one mouth and two ears for a reason. Listen contently.

Matthew 25:14-30 says that we are responsible to use the gifts given to us. Sharing your gifts makes God happy. Be proud of your gifts and use them wisely. Go shine!

Prayer: Lord, be present in all of our lives and open our hearts and minds to see and use our gifts wisely. Encourage us to not lose track of our gifts and to be a shining light in this world.  Amen.
