Lenten Devotions Day 15

Posted by Jill Burchill on

“And I will still be carrying you when you are old. Your hair will turn gray, and I will still carry you. I made you, and I will carry you to safety.” Isaiah 46:4

I was so grateful to find this verse. As we age, I don’t think it is always fun – and often times, it is scary. Things seem to change so quickly after about age 60 – our bodies, our energy level, our memory and even our confidence level! No matter how we try – exercise, brain games, vitamins, hearing aids, etc. (and I’ve tried them all!) our aging continues.

I try to remind myself that the greatest benefit of aging is being able to enjoy watching our kids and grandkids grow and make their own lives. What a great thing to experience and I’m so glad that I am able to be a part of this. And I always remember that some of my friends have died too soon and are missing so much. But as my joints start to ache and when I walk into a room I’ve forgotten what I was going to get…. I am reminded of the downsides of aging.

This verse reminds me that no matter my failed body or memory, the Lord will take hold of me, and I will be okay. It’s also comforting that He will take hold of my husband, too. It’s hard to watch our spouses, and also, our friends struggle through aging issues. At my age, friends are dying way too often – it’s hard to watch this happen. But I believe the Lord will comfort us through our illness and struggles as we age.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for promising to keep us safe during aging, no matter the               circumstances. What a relief!  Amen.
