Lenten Devotions Day 21

Posted by Vicki Datt on

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Romans 12:12-13

There are countless ways that we are able to share with the Lord's people who are in need. One of the best ways is to simply ask someone, "What can I do for you today?"

About eight years ago, my husband, David, started doing mission trips. I didn't "get it" until I went on one. I was hooked. There was such positive energy, joy, hope and camaraderie with like-minded Christians. It is difficult to describe. I felt like I was working together with teammates on a sports team again, but this was a team playing for Jesus! I truly feel that I am receiving more of a blessing in serving than I am able to give. I'm not bold at telling my faith story, but I love working hard on construction projects for people affected by natural disasters. It's so wonderful getting to know them, and hopefully bringing them a sense of hope, belonging, and being cared for by other Christians.

We have so much to learn from other communities and cultures. I am thankful to be able to travel with the Bethel group going to Tanzania this year. I believe it will be a chance for us to learn how to appreciate the important things in life, like connecting with others, being respectful of all, living your faith and taking care of each other.

Bethel Creation Care has become an uplifting mission right here at Bethel. It's exciting to be a part of this group of wonderful people, doing what we can to inspire us all to understand, care, and take action for God's creation.

Acts 1:8 says we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, and we can be witnesses to the ends of the earth. The entire world is a mission field and there are so many ways to share with the Lord's people who are in need. There are moments every day- we share a smile, hold open a door, say a kind word or say a prayer. We can volunteer at Bethel or in the community or on a mission trip.

May your day be blessed!

Prayer: Lord, we are so thankful for the many opportunities You give us every day to share with Your people who are in need. Open our eyes to see what You are calling us to do. Amen.
