Mission and Justice Opportunity to Serve

Posted on

Dorothy Day Center, helps those people with the greatest needs. The center provides shelter, nutritious meals,
assistance in overcoming homelessness, resources for
finding jobs and endless other services. Bethel sponsors a meal at Dorothy Day Center on the first Sunday of each month, often feeding over 200 people each week. Chuck Lewis has been involved in this Bethel Ministry for over 19 years and is key in organizing, prepping and serving food plus recruiting
volunteers. Sgt Peppers generously provides a large part of the meals.
Monetary donations from Bethel’s congregation are greatly needed and
appreciated to assist with food and supply purchases.

Volunteers are greatly needed to continue supporting this Ministry. Currently there are only three faithful volunteers including Chuck. Six additional
volunteers are needed each week and four persons available as backup would be very helpful. Transportation from Bethel is provided. Volunteers should be at least 18 years of age. The role of the volunteers includes: 1)
availability from 2:00-6:30pm on the first Sunday of each month, 2) ability to pick up meals from Sgt. Peppers and deliver to Dorothy Day, 3) serving meals and 4) spending time interacting with diners. No cleanup is required!

If you are interested in volunteering or for details, please contact a Bethel pastor and they will connect you to this great opportunity to serve locally!
